10565 SE 23rd Ave, Milwaukie

This 1920’s Mediterranean-style, three-story house features stucco exterior with red tiled, multi-gabled roof. The entryway showcases a gable roof with elliptical arch, and an oak paneled door with a round-headed, multi-light window flanked by sidelights. The property includes an outbuilding, also stucco with red tile roof. Property was originally owned by Seth Lewelling. The property was then passed to Richard Scott in 1895. In 1907 the property was purchased by Phillip Streib, who built some of the existing building on the property, including the main home in 1923. Mr. Streib was a Portland brewmeister and hotel owner, who was later Mayor of Milwaukie from 1909 to 1913; Streib was also the founder and President of the First State Bank of Milwaukie (now First State Bank of Oregon).

The property features three historic outbuildings, as well as a fourth built to match in 2019, historic Rhododendron trees, a pond, old fountains, a waterfall and rock lined gardens. The original three historic buildings were built by Phillip Streib. One of these, the pump shed, has the pond flow right through it, where a large wooden water wheel once ran irrigation pumps or a mill. Homing pigeons were also raised in the upper level of this shed. Former owners installed a 1/8th scale railroad track that once circled the pond and a tiki bar in the basement. The building also includes a full run of Oregon Reports Books from 1857 - 2010.
